CALYPSO TAKES ON THE 5-YEAR-OLD CHALLENGE

CALYPSO TAKES ON THE 5-YEAR-OLD CHALLENGE

The brand marketing world is full of big words, and maybe you’re too scared to ask, “what does X mean?” or “why do you say Y?” Well, this month we’re taking on the social media challenge of explaining branding and marketing terms to a 5-year-old, and having a little fun in the name of creating a better understanding of this complex world.

ci  CI GUIDE: A CI or "corporate identity" is like a pretty outfit for your company - and you can mix and match pieces of clothing to build the perfect #lewk. Company logos, colours, and designs - it's really your entire wardrobe that you would use to "dress up" your company to look its best for the party.

high- resHIGH-RES: Imagine you're building a picture out of tiles. Now, you can build the picture out of a few BIG tiles, but it won't be very clear - this is called 'low-res' or 'low resolution'. OR you can build it out of many, many tiny tiles, and it will look very clear and sharp because there are so many details packed into it - this is known as 'high-res' or 'high resolution'.

vector   VECTOR: Let's say you're creating an outline of a cat. For a JPEG, you would use a piece of string. If you want to make that picture bigger, you need to cut the string into little pieces and the picture just doesn't look right anymore. A vector, on the other hand, uses an elastic band instead of a string. This means that, when you make the picture bigger, it can stretch and stretch without losing quality.

html  HTML: HTML is like building blocks that we use to create a website. Imagine you have different kinds of blocks - some are for text, some for pictures, and some for making things bold or colourful. When you make a website with HTML, you hand these blocks over to the computer and it can then read it and arrange everything in just the right way.

copy & content   COPY & CONTENT: So, you know when you're reading a book? Copy is the physical words you see on the page - like "the dog barks at the child". Content, on the other hand, is everything you discover in the book - like the story and the pictures of the dog and child. So, when your agency asks you for content, they're looking for a story, fun photos and even a video. All of that is content!

wetransfer  Wetransfer Let's say you have a wooden car you want to send to your friend - but it's too big to fit in the box and send in the mail. Oh no! Well, WeTransfer basically deconstructs the wooden car so that it's small enough to fit into a box. Then, WeTransfer takes it over to your friend's house, where it delivers the parcel and helps your friend to rebuild it.
